Laser Tattoo Removal - The RevLite Laser
Laser tattoo removal is one of the most popular treatments we perform at Satin Med Spa. Using the newest, most up-to-date laser technology, the RevLite laser by ConBio, we are able to offer the best and most effective laser tattoo removal available. The Revlite Laser System is not only more than twice as powerful as any tattoo removal lasers before it, but also twice as fast. Tattoos that in the past would normally take 10 to 12 treatments can now be removed in just 6 to 8 treatments. The RevLite is able to remove all colors and is able to treat all skin types, leaving no residual images as was the case with previous laser technology.

Satin Med Spa is proud to be the first medical clinic in Charlotte to offer this new revolutionary tattoo removal system.

The RevLite™ is the gold standard for laser tattoo removal. With multiple wavelengths to choose from, well trained medical providers can use the optimum wavelength to pass into the skin and is then absorbed by a specific color ink, customizing the treatment for each patient and each individual tattoo. The RevLite Laser, by HOYA ConBio™, is engineered to force energy into the target molecules at such a high rate that they cause the ink to essentially vibrate and shatter.  The RevLite™ utilizes an extremely high-speed shutter to produce nano-second pulse widths, enabling highly effective procedures with less heat and increased safety.

The RevLite features what is called PhotoAcoustic Technology Pulse™; delivering very narrow pulse widths at peak energy, even at larger spot sizes. This PhotoAcoustic effect breaks the ink down into tiny particles, which are gradually removed by the body’s natural filtering systems. This technology results in up to 60 percent more power to deliver peak energy in very narrow pulse widths while being able to also maintain optimal patient comfort. As a result, the PhotoAcoustic Technology Pulse™ (PTP) found in RevLite™ is able to remove stubborn tattoos safely, comfortably and in fewer treatment sessions.

Professional tattoos, on average, require six to eight treatments, while amateur tattoos usually require four or more sessions due to the different composition of inks. Generally, treatments are spaced six to eight weeks apart. With the use of a RevLite™ laser, it is usually possible to achieve greater than 95 percent fading. For these reasons, the RevLite™ is known worldwide as the first choice for multi-color tattoo removal.

Laser Tattoo Removal - How it Works
The way in which laser tattoo removal works is through an intense, almost explosive heat caused by the laser, with the use of a Q-switched laser, and fragmentation of the intracellular ink granules that are contained in dermal phagocytic cells (macrophages).  The tattoo is removed by a combination of the skin cells and ink being sloghed off from the surface skin in addition to the ink pigment breaking down and then being transported into the lymphatic system; thereby naturally being expelled from the body.

In addition to the RevLite™ Laser being more powerful and faster, this laser also has four different Q-switched laser wavelengths. This is important because depending on the color of the tattoo ink, a specific laser wavelength is used for each color in the tattoo. Red ink is better removed by green laser pulses; green ink is better removed by red laser pulses. Black ink responds to what is referred to as the 1064 wavelength.

Laser tattoo removal requires multiple treatment sessions. The number of treatments depends on the quality and depth of the tattoo, the type of ink used in the tattoo, the colors used in the tattoo and the age of the tattoo.  Most tattoos take six to eight treatments; some may take ten treatments, and the most challenging tattoos may require as many or more than twelve treatments.  Red and black are the easiest colors to remove while yellow, green and blue can be the most challenging colors to remove from a tattoo.

Lasers have become the standard treatment for tattoo removal because they offer a less invasive, low risk, highly effective alternative with minimal side effects. Side effects of laser tattoo removal may include transient pigmentary and textural changes;  hyperpigmentation, which is usually mild and transient and can be treated with topical bleaching agents; hypopigmentation, which is also usually transient. Depigmentation occurs in about 1% of cases and can be permanent. The risk of scarring by from laser tattoo removal treatments is less than 5%, and is limited to only a portion of the treated area and not the entire area treated.

At Satin Med Spa, a cooling air system is offered at no additional cost and is very effective in numbing the area as well as helping with reduced pain and swelling after treatment.  The tattoo is then treated with the appropriate laser wavelenth depending on the various tattoo factors such as colors and age of the tattoo. The laser causes the top layer of ink to break up into smaller fragments. The skin will turn white over the area where the tattoo was treated.  Some minimal bleeding may occur and the aftercare is generally the same as if treating a burn and a bandage will be applied to the area treated. The skin usually heals within seven to ten days.  Most of the ink will gradually be absorbed by the body over the course of four to six weeks following treatment.  The tattoo may continue to lighten for several months after the treatment.
